N680 Stainless Steel for Knife Blades
Bohler N680 Stainless Steel
Manufacturer: Böhler
Bohler N680 is a Hardenable Chromium-Molybdenum steel with Vanadium and Nitrogen addition including excellent corrosion resistance properties especially in salt water and media containing chloride ions.
This steel is primarily designed for use in cutting tools of all kinds, requiring higher corrosion resistance and a durable cutting edge, e.g. knives for the meat processing industry. Cutting tools, blades of different shapes with high cutting hardness and toughness.
N680 is not a high-end steel but rather a nitrogen-steel that resists corrosion at a much lower pricepoint than most other nitrogen steels. It is easy to machine and sharpen, but edge holding is not the greatest. There are several major knife manufacturers using N680 steel including Lone Wolf and Benchmade.
